Coffee with Heather King at Paradise Banquet Hall
I am 100% sure that everyone leaving the Paradise Banquet Hall on Sunday, left convinced that the BEST solution for Delta is Heather KING for Mayor!

She started off by telling us her experience, her concerns, and her reasons for wanting to be the next Delta Mayor.

She was warm, articulate, intelligent, confident, informed, approachable, hospitable, open to suggestions, and wanting to solve problems!

Then she opened up the room, by asking for questions.

The questions were tough and pointed.

No problem for Heather, she is a skilled leader.

Heather answered the questions in rapid fire.

She knows her stuff, her communities, her bylaws, and her people.

KING wants to learn more and she wants to serve Delta.

North Delta voters are informed and concerned, they had more questions than time!

They wanted to know what she thinks and what she is going to do about the North Delta issues!

Dean, Heather's campaign strategist and manager.

A juicy tidbit of interest:

As a Tsawwassenite, suffering from Southlands fatigue, I found the event to be very refreshing - not one question at the North Delta event had anything to do with Southlands.

Go figure!

We are a three part municipality; Delta's issues are WAY bigger and  more complex than JUST Tsawwassen's Southlands.
King is concerned with ALL of Delta, as demonstrated by the depth of her answers. She cares and she knows her communities!
The afternoon concluded with the audience knowing why Heather wants to be our next Mayor, how her experience dovetails with being Delta's boss, what her stance is regarding the many issues that concern North Delta, and her stance regarding the many issues relevant to all of Delta.

Added Bonus for the afternoon:

We saw how KING thinks on her feet!

You could hear the electricity cracking as she thought out loud about hosting one of her two monthly Wednesday 7 AM coffee session in North Delta and the other one in South Delta...

The sizzling really started popping when she pondered the possibility of having an easily accessible store front office in North Delta...

She is a fast learner and she is paying attention: Headquarters in Ladner Village is a store front and it has been hugely successful at providing an organic opportunity for Heather to be easily accessible to her voters.

Wouldn't it make sense for the next mayor to have something similar in North Delta?

Win-win or in Heather's case - snap, crackle, and sizzle!

When I was at HQ yesterday, a local popped in, "Just to say, 'Hi' and to ask Heather a quick question."

Heather wasn't in, so the local added her question to the ten or so notes/messages/suggestions/concerns in Heather's basket, and left knowing that Heather would contact her ASAP!

The communication system at HQ is simple:
  • The volunteers greet walk-ins, answer questions, phone voters, and take messages when heather is out.
  • Heather picks up the messages when she finishes campaigning for the day
  • and she responds to them in a timely manner!

It's not rocket science, but is sure is effective.

She demonstrates that communication can be direct, timely, and two-way - it shouldn't be obscure, obstructed or non-existent.

KING is demonstrates time and again that she is listening and that she is accessible!

Paradise Banquet Hall:

A few folks, including yours truly, had a bit of trouble finding Paradise Banquet Hall.

Whenever anyone mentioned they had trouble finding the hall, it would set off a round of guffawing.
Apparently, it's a bit of a pathetic inside joke, as Mr. Brar has unsuccessfully been trying to get permission to increase the signage for three years.....

I don't know all the details or the bylaw, but you can see from the pictures why it's a bit of a challenge to find Paradise Banquet Hall.

Tip: it's upstairs and the door is on the north side. Keep looking, it's worth the frustration!

Highly recommended!

Once you find the door - you will be delighted!

It's beautiful!

It's big!

It's a lovely place to host an event!

Notice Mr. Shy Chef trying to slip out of my camera range!

Gotcha!

Food was great.

"Full-sugar chai" was delicious.

Confession:  I really don't get the concept of "low-sugar chai". I've been to India, the chai maker takes his job very seriously and chai is really, really deliciously sweet.

Maybe "low-sugar" is the modern, health-conscious chai.

I still don't get it.

Thankfully had both options - bring on the sugar!

John, my favourite video and mortgage guy, is behind the equipment.

Jas, my favourite radio guy from XL_Radio, is boasting a plate full of yummy bits!  Tweet Jas

Who else was there?

Bet these gentlemen were drinking the "full-sugar" chai!

I sure was!

Ta da -- meet my two newest  heroes:
Alison and Azhar

Azhar Khan, Toastmaster BC Area 50 Governor.

Azhar met Heather at a Deltones Toastmasters meeting in Ladner in July. I blogged it!

Azhar took complete initiative and created this award for Heather for her leadership skills and for her help in promoting Toastmasters!

He presented the award to her at the end of the event.

Look at her face, she has NO idea what to expect!

(Trust me, I get that look lots!)

What an honour!
