Heather King can imporve inefficiencies in the public sector: Day 62

August 11, I read Sandor Gyarmati article (link below) in The Delta Optimist and I thought:
  • WOW, so not fair, there are many beautiful areas in North Delta, and
  • many, many home owners in North Delta take great pride in their yards and homes, but mostly I thought,
  • it sounds like The Ghost of Christmas Past haunting us again.

I wanted to respond by blogging some cheap shots in the direction of the City Hall's Throne. My inner blogger screamed, yet I refused to sling my 2-cents worth into the heap of opinions. Instead, I ignored the gnawing at the back of my, rather thin, cranium, practiced self-constraint, and self-mediated.

However, August 19th, I came across Thomas Falcone's tweet: it was a work of art, pleading to be read. Delta deserved to see it. (Below)

For ten days, I continued to self-medicate with chocolate, red wine, and sunshine, but today, I can no longer pacify the gnawing sensation. Today I blog it!  (Tune of "Rocky")

OK, true confession:  I immediately retweeted Thomas's tweet, but the article kept begging to be "released" - yes, pun intended.

In 2000, eleven years, three ice ages, and almost 4 elections ago, the present mayor, The Ghost of Christmas Past, complained about the "decay" in North Delta.  (Snore, yawn, snore, yawn...oh, unless she actually did something about it...then it would be a great story: worthy of  one term at the helm, maybe stretched into two terms, maybe.)

Seriously, think about it: after all her time at the "helm" of Delta, she hasn't managed to "clean up" North Delta? ***

(Er, that would be 12 years as mayor and, honestly, I can not stomach the $$ math - you do it and let me know how you feel about your tax dollars and inefficiencies in the public sector: 2011 "Jackson now gets $66,082 as Metro board chair – in addition to her $100,000 salary as Mayor of Delta", if you have the stomach, click for the story.

How many terms will it take?
Seriously, if she were your housekeeper, she would be unemployed.

Thomas Falcone's tweet, with the article from the Vancouver Sun, that kept begging to be "released":

In 2000, Lois Jackson was talking about "decay" in North Delta, in 2011 her daughter rants about renters causing decay.
Thank you Thomas for digging up that article!

***The last time I was in North Delta was for the North Delta Sunfish Swimming & Water Polo Club swim meet at the Sun God Recreation Centre, and I thought it was a truly quaint postal code.  Blog - Day 32: Woodstock in ND?

***August 12, a couple of our youth wanted to make a difference, so they mobilized 95 people and organized a beach clean-up at Centennial Beach. Maybe they have some tips for the Mayor - see Day 43: Leaders Inspire and lead by example and Day 48: Not just another day at the beach.

Heather King at the Quilt Walk and Classic Car show: Day 54: What happens when you drink beer and fight?

Ripley showing what happens when you drink beer and fight

OK, I apologize, as my subject line is a bit misleading! I was shamelessly trying to drive up the traffic on the blog. Busted!

I met Ripley at the 8th annual quilt walk and classic car show! He was the friendliest little guy ever.

The day was a huge success!

My favourite and it's in green!
I think it was the best quilt walk and classic car show!
How handy, Heather found one in pink!

Older classics: The Tom Cats were rockin' all day.

Heather King at Southlands: Day 52

Heather invited me to join her at the Open House. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it until after she left. It was a pleasant evening for a walk. Just a quick walk up 3rd Avenue to get to the Open House.

Therefore, you'll have to use your imagination - visualize her looking glamorous, like a pit bull with lipstick on, asking Sean her questions regarding Southlands. As usual, she is determined to be 100% informed, before casting her vote.
I love our friendly neighbourhood! So great  to greet so many neighbours coming and going to and from the Open House. It was fun to be part of the conversations and to hear their opinions, concerns, and excitement.
I can not say for sure, but there may have been one more apple on that tree, oops (yum)

As it's our neighbourhood, I was very interested to see the "neighbourhood centre" part of the  plan.

The group was very diligent at studying the plans and reading the literature.

The questionnaire had lots of room for comments.

I snoopily checked the box and there were a number of completed forms.

There were pockets of discussions happening everywhere in the room

I like the colours

Debbie Kemp, Director Delta Chamber and neighbour, came out to review the plans

It was a good evening, I am glad I went. I feel better being in the know and getting my questions answered.

Speaking of being in the know, today Sylvia Bishop announced that she is running for Council. And just yesterday the newly formed electoral organization, Renew Delta, announced that they would be participating in the election. Ah, the fireworks are going to be spectacular!

If you have a concern, or if  you want to know where Heather stands on Southlands, contact her - her information is at the top of the page.

While you're chatting with her, book a table for the Gala!

Heather king's Gala: Day 49: A Gala fit for a King

Fundraising has kicked into full gear!

Marsha has been scouring Delta for silent auction and door prizes.

Here are the prizes that I know about - more to come, not a completed list:
  • 7 nights accommodation at a Mexican Riviera resort,
  • $5,000 worth of consulting for home design/renovations,
  • jewelry,
  • one night accommodation in their suite at the Tsawwassen Inn
  • and a massive amount of silent auction items.
(Massive? Well, 'er I might be exaggerating a bit....)
Regardless, bring your checkbooks and get ready for an amazing night!
Heather writing letters of support
(That kind-looking old guy on the wall over Heather's left shoulder is her Dad. He passed away a few years ago after a stay in Mountain View Manor. Ask Heather about him, and you'll see that the apple didn't fall very far from the tree: he was a politician with deep integrity and a community vision. Oh, he would be an interesting blog topic.)

Less than a month to the Gala - let the partaaay begin!
The Gala is shaping up to be the "social event" of the month - OK, it's easily shaping up to be THE social event of MY year, but I was afraid that I would sound just a little too pathetic. But I am really looking forward to it.

Ticket sales:
Six full tables of ten have been purchased and
20 individual tickets have been sold!   Nice.

If your significant other is busy, or has yet to be found, and you want to come to the party, come solo; don't miss out on the fun! Heather has set aside two friendly tables.  When you book your ticket, tell Heather or Marsha that you want to be seated at "Barb's" table....guarantee we'll be the loudest and most friendly table in the room - in a good way, of course.  (Hint to Heather: I am hoping to be able to "host" one of  these tables.)

Now do you see why I am so excited? Prizes, good food, really good food, fun, new friends.... and we get the opportunity to support Heather for Mayor!
A KING of an Evening!!!
