YIPPPEEEEE...
The universe has been aligned!
I have found ONE REAL person who was phoned on October 19th and invited to be apart of the DIVA's telephone town hall thingy.
Missed the blog? No worries click here.
Lois wrote on her Facebook page that, "12,000 residents
were called" - 34% of all homes in Delta were called.
Today, after two weeks of searching, I have found my FIRST REAL PERSON who was called. Just how exciting is that?
I am not going to tell
you what happened during the town hall call; however I did invite my "real person" to be a
guest blogger. I think you will be interested to hear his perspective of
the telephone town hall thingy. Keep your fingers crossed.
Oh, OK, I'll give you a hint: my quest to find the ONE REAL PERSON was way, I mean, WAAAYYY more fun and interesting than the telephone thingy! Turns out we didn't miss much!
I am sooo excited, I am going to celebrate my success by attending the Delta School Board Debates at Genesis Theatre at 7 PM tonight! Bring on the party!!!
My obsession with candidates' volunteer experience:
I have this repulsion to candidates wanting to seek public office, wanting to be public servants, if their volunteer efforts do not demonstrated their passion and heart for the community.
Simply, if they aren't volunteers at heart, they don't get my vote. Volunteers have a proven history. Volunteers have a passion and heart for the community.
It's my bar, my election gold standard.
Truly, I don't believe that candidates will develop a servant heart once they get elected!
NOTE to all Delta Politician:
My blog is your blog, if you want to showcase your public servant heart send me your volunteer list!Every volunteer is a hero!
School Board Trustees candidates have an added bar.
To earn my vote, School Board Trustees candidates must have a heart for kids.
School board talk often is about finance, unions, Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA), leadership, budgets, bla, bla, bla....but I want to know that my trustee is about kids, too!
Today's Hero:
Delta School Trustee Candidate Brad Sherwin!
Brad is a dedicated, life-long learner - he went back to school and earned his MBA while working full-time.
Brad and his wife, Glennis, have live in Delta for over 16 years. They have three children currently in the Delta School system.
Contact Brad:Twitter: @Sherwin4TrusteeEmail: Brad@sherwin4Trustee.comWebsite: Sherwin4Trustee.com
Brad is an extensive volunteer.
I know a lot of what Brad does doesn't have a title, but he has a heart for kids and the community.
For example during the last Boundary Bay emergency, Brad was one of the first on the scene sandbagging. His house wasn't in danger, but he was out helping his fellow neighbours in the cold and rain.
Speaking of helping his neighbours, he is an amazing neighbour. He keeps a close eye on a couple of our elderly neighbours - he is their first response team!
Here is Brad's "official" volunteer list:
- Certified minor hockey coach - assistant coach for his youngest son's teams
- Goalie coach for minors
- Volunteer for the Tsawwassen Minor Hockey Association goalie clinics
- NOTE: this volunteer role shows dedication:
- Brad's youngest has moved from hockey to skateboarding and Brad still volunteers at the 7:00 AM Saturday morning goalie clinics!
- They meet EVERY Saturday morning and Brad has almost perfect attendance. Bravo Brad!
- Bike Marshall for Tour de Delta
- Bike Marshal for Delta Triathlon
- Bike Marshall for Vancouver International Triathlon
- Spirit of Delta Community Committee
Brad and one of his mini-goalies! |
Congratulations Brad, you are a hero!
Brad's volunteer work demonstrates that he is a true hero with a public servant's heart, a heart for kids, and a heart for sports in Delta!
***Tragically another I have to make room on my heroes list.....ouch, I just hate bumping Robert down on my heroes list, but it's obvious Brad is an outstanding hero, and I can't just stick him on the bottom!
