My two-second take on the Tuesday's Mayoral Debates:
Heather won
Congratulations Heather! |
It was hosted by the
South Delta Leader and the Delta Chamber of Commerce.
Philip Raphael, Editor South Delta Leader, and Claire Preston, a student from Delta Secondary School, alternated reading questions |
Ian Tate of the Chamber moderated the event |
- All candidates gave a two-minute info-commerical.
- Candidates had one minute to answer each question.
- It was fair, they took turns being the first to answer the questions.
The mid-point bird's eye view |
My favourite feature:
The timer had the ability to turn the candidate's microphone off!
The timing was totally fair: timing cards were held up so that the candidate could see how much time they had left. As soon as their time was up - flick the timer flipped the microphone switch off and the microphone went dead!

Regardless of who was speaking, when I saw the red card, I started rooting for the speaker. I enjoyed the extra element of fun for the evening.
My favourite answer of the night:
Lois: "No!"
Lois left a good 56 seconds on the table. She could have used the time to explain her answer, but she didn't. No debate, no discussion, no explanation, no reasoning, no brilliance, no leadership, no reason to vote for her: just "NO!"

**NOTE: this was obviously not the best answer for getting votes or public support, but it was my favourite answer.

If you want to read more of the Mayoral Debate details - I recommend Council Candidate Neil Corbett's blog site.
The infamous search continues:
A few days ago at the Grand Opening of the Heather King for Mayor Headquarters, I did a blurb about the most intriguing conversation thread at the Grand Opening.
Basically, I cannot find anyone who was phoned for the DIVA's Town Hall phone thingy.
Heck I can’t even find anyone who knows anyone who was phoned.
Missed the blog? No worries click here.
Lois wrote on her Facebook page that, "12,000 residents
were called" - 34% of all homes in Delta were called -- but I
have not found anyone who was called. Strange considering I have asked a
whole whack of folks. I didn't just rely on word of mouth; I've tweeted, blogged, emailed, and Facebooked to fine
someone. In short, I've really been searching.
Disclaimer:I did get via Twitter receive one tweet from "a Nameless-Twitter Egg" saying that they, "Sure did {receive a call}", but eggs don't count.
It's rotten or maybe just hard-boiled to have "a Nameless-Twitter Egg" as the only one who was called - sounds kind of fried to me.
For this survey, I can't put all my eggs in one basket!
I am still searching for just ONE REAL PERSON who was phoned.
If you were phoned, and if you are a real person, please let me know.
