My two-second take on the Tuesday's Mayoral Debates:

Heather won

Congratulations Heather!
I enjoyed the format of the Mayoral Debate:

It was hosted by the South Delta Leader and the Delta Chamber of Commerce.
Philip Raphael, Editor South Delta Leader, and Claire Preston, a student from Delta Secondary School, alternated reading questions
Ian Tate of the Chamber moderated the event

    • All candidates gave a two-minute info-commerical.
    • Candidates had one minute to answer each question.
    • It was fair, they took turns being the first to answer the questions.

    The mid-point bird's eye view

    My favourite feature:

The timer had the ability to turn the candidate's microphone off!

The timing was totally fair: timing cards were held up so that the candidate could see how much time they had left. As soon as their time was up - flick the timer flipped the microphone switch off and the microphone went dead!

Regardless of who was speaking, when I saw the red card, I started rooting for the speaker.  I enjoyed the extra element of fun for the evening.

My favourite answer of the night:

    Lois: "No!"

Lois left a good 56 seconds on the table. She could have used the time to explain her answer, but she didn't. No debate, no discussion, no explanation, no reasoning, no brilliance, no leadership, no reason to vote for her: just "NO!"

    Lois

**NOTE:  this was obviously not the best answer for getting votes or public support, but it was my favourite answer.

    Lois

If you want to read more of the Mayoral Debate details - I recommend Council Candidate Neil Corbett's blog site

    The infamous search continues:

A few days ago at the Grand Opening of the Heather King for Mayor Headquarters, I did a blurb about the most intriguing conversation thread at the Grand Opening.

Basically, I cannot find anyone who was phoned for the DIVA's Town Hall phone thingy.
Heck I can’t even find  anyone who knows anyone who was phoned.

Missed the blog? No worries click here.

Lois wrote on her Facebook page that, "12,000 residents were called" - 34% of all homes in Delta were called -- but I  have not found anyone who was called. Strange considering I have asked a whole whack of folks. I didn't just rely on word of mouth; I've tweeted, blogged, emailed, and Facebooked to fine someone. In short, I've really been searching.
    Disclaimer:
I did get via Twitter receive one tweet from "a Nameless-Twitter Egg" saying that they, "Sure did {receive a call}", but eggs don't count.
It's rotten or maybe just hard-boiled to have "a Nameless-Twitter Egg" as the only one who was called - sounds kind of fried to me.

For this survey, I can't put all my eggs in one basket!

I am still searching for just ONE REAL PERSON who was phoned.
If you were phoned, and if you are a real person, please let me know.

     Today's Hero:

    Mayoral Candidate Heather King
Yes, I am biased, but I Heather did an outstanding job at the Mayoral Debates.

Thank you so much to our army of volunteers.  We could never thank you enough for how you have put this campaign together.
Giant hugs for all of you!

Grand Opening Celebration at Heather KING for Mayor's Headquarters!

The heritage building was just a buzzing with excitement on Sunday at Heather KING for Mayor's campaign headquarters Grand Opening!

The Grand Opening Celebration had plenty of themes that I noticed:

    Purple Attire:

I didn't get the memo, but many supporters showed up in PURPLE  to show their support for Heather KING for Mayor!

    Bret, Heather, Carol (Bret's Granny)
Pauline Basi and Heather (Andy's in the background)

Carol is a star, not just because she is wearing  PURPLE in support of Heather, but because she brought her grandson - a first time voter!

    Bravo Carol!

    Pauline in PURPLE .

Pauline  and Heather have been friends for years -- ever since Heather was first elected to the School Board in 2002. Pauline works for the School Board

Check out Andy Basi's website. He is a  Candidate for School Board Trustee and in my opinion a very good choice. Engage Andy on twitter @AndyBasi.

Neil Corbett  - proudly wearing PURPLE
Neil Corbett, candidate for Council,  is proudly displaying his PURPLE shirt!

Neil told me it was not an accident - he wore his PURPLE shirt on purpose to show his support for Heather KING for Mayor.

Neil is a good choice for Delta Council. Check out his blog. Follow him on twitter @neilcorbett11

Ponder: What would Neil (or anyone) wear to a DIVA party to show support?....shucks Halloween was yesterday.

    Ingrid and Heather

Ingrid  has bits of PURPLE in her shirt and she has a ROYAL PURPLE  spirit!

She signed up to canvass and yesterday Keith, her hubby, was on the phones!
Heather is holding her PURPLE  flyer and Sharon is showing off her PURPLE  shirt.

    Intriguing Conversation Thread:

    "Did you get phoned?"

    "NO! Did you?"

"NO! Do you know anyone that did?"

    "NO!"
"Well surely someone here got a call!"
*****So I set out on a quest to find someone who was called!

            "NO!"                           "NO, no!"
                                    "Nope."
                   "NO."                   "Still waiting."
                             "Negative"
                      "Not me!"                  "No."

       Well you get the picture...

I never found anyone who was called.

     I am still searching!

"Did you get a phone call for the DIVA's Telephone Town Hall?"

The full-page DIVA advertisement in both the SD Leader and the Delta Optimist said,
    • "Telephone Town Hall with Mayor Lois Jackson, and Councillors Scott Hamilton, Ian Paton and Robert Campbell
    • Join in and let yourself be heard!
    • Expect a call at 7PM to be connected to this event.
    • 7PM Wednesday Oct 19, 2011"

The ad tells you to expect a phone call to be connected to the event...so I erroneously assumed I would get a call.

    Nope, no call for Barb_2U.

I have to ask, "How can I be heard, if don't get a call?"

    Was anyone heard?

    Did anyone get a call?

October 20th there was a bit of conversation on Jackson's Facebook page, "‎12000 residents were called at random. If your phone did not ring at 7pm your number was not chosen."

So now I am really pondering....
    • there are approximately 35,000 homes in Delta,
    • they called 12,000 residents at random,
    • 34% of the homes were called..(one in three)

Surely if one in three were randomly called, I could find someone who was called!

I've been kind of obsessing about this and I've asked a lot of folks, but so far I haven't found anyone who was called.

If you got a phone call for the DIVA's Telephone Town Hall, please.....pretty please, send me an email or tweet me @Barb_2U and let me know.

    Definitely an intriguing conversation thread!

Please add to it, if you have any information or concerns.

    Youth Involvement:

    Wade. Bret, Pricilla
Wade is Heather and  Dean's son, he's been a tremendous help

Bret is a first time voter and he is taking his right to vote very seriously! Bravo!

This is Pricilla's third Heather King campaign. She did her first phone shift yesterday after school.
Troy has been out canvassing with his mom and siblings
Thumbs up for Heather and for Canvasser Taylor and Wade

Cory King in background - Dr. Andy Basi and Joan sharing a joke

    Food and People:

    Sushi wraps, cake, goodies...yum
Heather answered questions - while I snapped pictures and ate sushi!

    Anne-Marie, Brad and Heather
Heather and Terry - Father of three youth canvassers

Two of my favourite people....Joan and Pricilla
    Heather listening to supporters

Andy Basi chatting with Peter and Carla
    Norm and cake
Pauline Basi, Dr. Andy Basi, Anne-Marie, and Brad
    Sharon and another blurry supporter
    Herofest!

Pauline Basi, Heather King #1 hero, & Dr. Andy Basi # 16 hero
Have you ever been in a room full of so many heroes?

Council Candidate, Neil Corbett #2 hero
    Neil #2 and Ferd #10

Neil had his knuckles gently rapped for having his campaign picture taken in front of the Tour de Delta banner (he's been the Tour de Directer for 11 years).

Inadvertently the Delta logo ended up in Neil's campaign photo. Neil was asked to remove it> He took a sharpie to all his campaign photos and blocked out all logos!

Once bitten, twice shy! Neil isn't going to get his knuckles rapped twice, so he humourously put his name tag over the Delta logo on his jacket.

Azhar #29, Carol and Dean - smart girl, I'm wearing PURPLE  from now on!
Heather #1 Hero, PURPLE  supporter Sharon, and Louise #28 hero

Carey # 27 Hero and Joan
Laura # 22 hero, Heather #1 hero, and Terry, hubby of #2 hero
     Today's Hero:

     Amazing Marsha!

Joan and Marsha -- notice the pen in Marsha's hand, she is always working for Heather's campaign!

She was the gal who organized Heather's Gala.

    She helped clean headquarters.

She does something every day to help Heather's campaign.

Yesterday she was organizing Heather's Apre-election party!

While we were chatting with Philip Raphael, Editor South Delta Leader, she told us that she was connecting with all her daughter's friends to get them to vote! I think that means the entire SDSS class of 2011!

She's a great sport: she lent her backside to this photo!

Marsha & Lauren modelling the new Heather King for Mayor T-shirts!
