Today's Hero:

Garth Cuthbert Council Candidate
I am sure that you will agree, Garth is a volunteer extraordinaire.
Check out his volunteer list...if he has this much energy and passion for his volunteer work, just think what he will be able to accomplish as a Delta councillor!

Follow Garth on twitter at @gdaddy53

When you read Garth's list and all about “The Bazaar Committee” of the Delta Museum and Archives Society, I am sure you will understand why, I reluctantly bumped Robert down on my heroes list!
I truly had to make room on my list, as volunteers rock my world!
****Cheer up Robert, I have a really good tip for you at the end of the blog.

Here is the best part ... when I asked Garth to send me his volunteer list, he did. He also showed initiative and nominated his own heroes for my list: “The Bazaar Committee” of the Delta Museum and Archives Society.
You can hear the admiration and respect that he has for these gals!

Garth Cuthbert's volunteer nomination:

“The Bazaar Committee” of the Delta Museum and Archives Society.

The “Committee” is a group of 10-12 mature ladies who meet 1-2 times a week year round to make craft items for their Christmas Bazaar. Proceeds from the bazaar go to support the Frances Brandrith Bates Memorial Scholarship for history at Delta Secondary.

They raise between $6-8k per year selling X-mas crafts and other cool stuff.

This year’s Bazaar sale is Nov. 18 and 19 at Kin House in Ladner.

“The Bazaar Committee” has a huge legacy and was formed by some of Frances’ friends and supporters after she passed years ago. My mother {Garth} who helped found the Museum in 1969, was an active member of the Bazaar committee. When she passed in 2007, the committee had members aged 60 to 97.

On several occasions I’ve introduced the group to visiting civic officials and challenged the officials by asking, "How they intend to support the community when they are 90?"

For these volunteers to persist and thrive in the face of  their physical challenges, their own scant resources and the sheer time and energy requirements, makes them my all time greatest Delta Volunteers.

Some of the past and present Bazaar committee ladies have Delta volunteer legacies greater than 70 years.

It is humbling.
Yes, Garth, it is humbling. Thank you for sharing your heroes with us.
