The jokes are begging to be made--we're got REAL, DIVA, RENEW, & one of ONE; a Bishop and a KING; a Sherwin, Smilie,Truelove and a Saip -- and they are all Heer, not in Engelland or Windsor -- work with what you've got! And don't forget the Carroll-er and the double-dipping Milat.

Guest blogger  -  Mr. Shiraz Bhatia:

We have four candidates for the Mayor’s job of which three have an amazing credentials and qualifications. There is no doubt that the need for a change in the leadership is paramount. The incumbent Mayor has served Delta admirably but it is time for a change after nine years at the helm. Mayor Jackson appears tired and at times clueless. Most of her time during the tenure ship has been taken up by the Southland issues and her commitment to Metro Vancouver region.

Don't know much about John Meech.

The other two candidates have capitalized on this by saying that Delta has lacked leadership in recent years and the bureaucrats are driving the agenda.

The candidate Ms. Engellend is not a fresh face by any means and has already served on the council for fifteen years but absolutely nothing to show for. Her campaign seems to concentrate on the Southland affair more than anywhere else. Till few days ago it was hard to find her signs and presence in North Delta. I firmly believe that her election as the Mayor will de-franchise North Delta completely.

That leaves Delta with no other choice except Councilor King as the next Mayor of Delta. She has a refreshing and a driving face with innovative thoughts and ideas to tackle, solve and deal with local issues, Ms. King has openly campaigned for City Hall transparency too. Her tireless campaign, humble approach to the Delta voters, and the ability to listen to ordinary citizen of Delta makes her the most electable candidate. She comes across as one of us.

Three new heroes:

  • Canadaian Vietnam Veteran Doug Lumley for serving our country.

    Canada was in Vietnam?

    Yes, as peacekeepers!

Canada did not fight in the Vietnam War and diplomatically it was "officially non-belligerent".[1] The country's troop deployments to Vietnam were limited to a small number of national forces in 1973 to help enforce the Paris Peace Accords.[2]

In 1973-1974 Doug was one of 248 Canadian Peacekeepers in Vietnam! Doug was a diver aboard the HMCS Terra Nova.

The Peacekeepers helped monitor the ceasefire and return of prisoners to Vietnam.
  • Heather and Doug Lumley - a Canadian Vietnam War Vet

He is proudly wearing his Canadian Peacekeepers Service Medal is awarded to all Canadians who serve with peacekeeping missions.

Read the South Delta Leader's story about about Doug.

  • Shiraz Bhatia -   for taking the initiative and writing the blog and for being Heather's newest canvassing partner!
  • Gabriel Torrealba - for making my week..with his tweet!

Gab's tweet that made my week!!

Gabriel Torrealba

I'm voting!! Largely because of you Barb.

Gab is the youth pastor at Ladner Christian Fellowship. He is a great guy!

On August 12th at the International Youth Day and Boundary Bay Beach Clean-up, Gab let it be know that he didn't know who our civic leaders are!

OUCH! I gasped, because I was shocked that a youth leader such as Gab didn't know his civic leaders.

The beauty of this is that Councillor Heather King was face painting just a few feet from where he was standing!
Gab in the green T-Shirt without hair
Gab is not alone. Only 30% of Delta voters voted in 2008........Nasty. Gets worse, in September one of my daughter's grade 11 teachers at South Delta Secondary School  could not identify Delta civic leaders.

Beauty of this? Both my daughter and Heather King's son were in the class and set the poor sod straight!

Bravo kids! SMACK, SMACK teacher!

Gab also said that he used to vote in his hometown, Ottawa, before moving out West! He's been here for years, so it's time.

For the past three months I have been gently nudging Gab with my sledgehammer and encouraging him to vote in the upcoming election!

Last night Gab sent me the tweet telling me he was voting! My heart is still singing!

Sorry, but I have to bump Robert down to make room for Doug, Shiraz and Gab, three heroes who take their civic responsibility very seriously!  Bravo Guys!

*****Not saying that Robert doesn't take his civic responsibility seriously, just saying that Doug, Shiraz and Gab sure do!
